Doula Trainer CourseClick Here to Register

Penny Simkin teaches this course, which prepares experienced educators and doulas to offer birth doula training in their communities. The Doula Trainer Course consists of the Labor Support Course (four days, used as a teaching laboratory) and one day of teacher training.

The course focuses on class content and teaching methods. Students analyze different teaching styles, learn how to develop learning objectives, and explore ways to teach about ethical issues, scope of practice, and professional standards.

Prerequisites

Before attending, you must:

  • be a DONA member and a DONA-certified doula
  • have attended at least 12 births as a doula
  • be a trained and experienced childbirth educator (either two years or ten class-series)

(Visit DONA for complete prerequisites for this course, and prerequisites for being certified as a trainer.)

Preference is given to childbirth educators and those from communities where doula training is unavailable.
