Library and Information Resources
The Bastyr University library has the most extensive collection of materials relating to the natural health sciences in the Pacific Northwest. The library's web-based catalog provides assistance in locating items. Resources and services are available to students, staff, faculty and alumni, as well as to the broader community. The library contains over 19,000 books, including academic textbooks, conference proceedings, and monographs covering the sociological, biological, legal, political, historical, and business aspects of midwifery and maternity care. The historical collection and archives contain many early and rare items. There is also a collection of DVDs, videotapes and audiocassettes. The library has 250 subscriptions to journals from the United States and abroad, including the major peer-reviewed journals covering the field of midwifery. Also available are many midwifery, other specialized and general medicine e-resources, many offering full text article access.
In addition, midwifery students and faculty have access to (but not borrowing privileges at) the University of Washington Health Sciences Library (HSL) with its extensive collection of over 300,000 volumes and 2,500 serial subscriptions in the biomedical sciences, nursing, medicine, and public health. Students who commute from outside of Seattle may request assistance in obtaining copies of articles from the HSL, or other libraries.
