SMS Library and Information Resources
The SMS library offers a range of resources and services that are extensively used by students and professionals outside the school. Current subscriptions to approximately 20 journals and newsletters include the major peer-reviewed journals covering the field of midwifery. Our book collection consists of approximately 1,600 titles including academic textbooks, conference proceedings, and monographs covering the sociological, biological, legal, political, historical, and business aspects of midwifery and maternity care. There is also a collection of videotapes and audiocassettes. Subscriptions to the online Cochrane Library and other journal databases, access to publicly available Web resources, and membership in the National Library of Medicine’s Docline interlibrary loan system provide students with further access to books and journal literature.
In addition, midwifery students and faculty have access to (but not borrowing privileges at) the University of Washington Health Sciences Library (HSL) with its extensive collection of over 300,000 volumes and 2,500 serial subscriptions in the biomedical sciences, nursing, medicine, and public health. The HSL is located approximately two miles from SMS. Students who commute from outside of Seattle may request assistance in obtaining copies of articles from the HSL.
A searchable online database of Seattle Midwifery School holdings will be available before the end of this year.
