Is your program a "distance" or "online" program?
Our program is unique. The best way to describe it would be as a "low residency program." Although students don’t have to live in or near Seattle, they are required to come to the school once a month for anywhere from 1-5 days. Between these onsite visits students use our online system to correspond with instructors and classmates, turn in homework, and take tests and quizzes.
After the first two quarters students are onsite for fewer days each month because they begin their clinical work. Students have summer quarters off from academic coursework (but not clinical work) and do not have to come to campus during summer.
What kind of computer do I need to have?
Please click here for a complete summary of computer requirements for the program.
Do I have to live near the school to attend SMS?
No. Many of our students commute from all over the area as well as other states and Canada. Regardless of where you live, you will be required to attend the onsite portion of the program.
Where can I stay when I am in Seattle for the onsite weeks?
Most students who live outside of Seattle are able to stay with other students during the onsite meetings. We also have a listing of local accommodations if you need it.
Is childcare available at the school?
Unfortunately, we do not have childcare available at the school. However, nursing infants are welcome as long as you have another person here to take care of the child when you are in class.
