Low Residency Program Format

What kind of computer do I need to have?

Your computer must meet the following minimum requirements:

  PC Mac
Hardware    
Processor Pentium class, 400 MHz or higher G3, Mac OS X-compatible or faster
Memory 128 MB RAM (PC or MAC)
Hard Drive 254 MB of available space (115 MB of that on the drive where the operating system is installed)
Monitor 800 x 600 screen with 256 colors MINIMUM;
1024x768, millions of colors recommended
CD or DVD Drive at least 4x speed (PC or MAC)
with read/write capabilities, for transferring files and storing valuable school work (a USB flash drive is also find for this purpose)
 
Software PC Mac
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP, or later Mac OS X version 10.3 or later
Internet Browser One of the following:
  • Microsoft IE 6.0 SP 1 or SP 2 (Windows XP SP 2)
  • Firefox 1.0 or 1.5
  • Mozilla 1.7

  • Netscape 7.2 (8.1 is not yet supported)

  • AOL 9.0
 One of the following:

  • Safari 1.2, 1.3, or 2.x (including Intel x86 platform)

  • Firefox 1.0 or 1.5

  • Mozilla 1.7

Internet Connection
 Broadband (DSL, cable or T1) is required.

Software
 Students should also have the following software (same for both PC and Mac):

  • Microsoft Office XP or later
  • Adobe Reader
  • QuickTime (may be required to access the materials contained in your online course)
  • Antivirus software with current definitions – one free option is Avast
  • Anti-spyware software (recommended) – one free option is Ad-Aware
