penny simkinWorkshop leader Penny Simkin PT is a renowned author and speaker. Penny has devoted much of her forty year career to exploring the impact of early trauma on pregnant women in our maternity care system and developing strategies to avoid re-traumatization during birth and facilitate the process of healing. The workshop provides information, insight, and practical advice for individualizing prenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. Penny’s book When Survivors Give Birth, co-authored with Phyllis Klaus CSW, MFT is the essential guide to the topic.

penny simkinPhyllis Klaus, MFT, LMSW is a licensed Marriage, Family, Therapist, social worker and author from in the Bay Area of California. She is a Founder of DONA International and has been involved with doula and perinatal research, for the past 35 years. She consults nationally and internationally and is co-author of The Amazing Newborn, Mothering the Mother, Bonding, Your Amazing Newborn; Video- The Amazing Talents of the Newborn; The Doula Book; and When Survivors Give Birth.
